The South Korean New Wave and Female Directors

Bong Joon Ho and Park Chan-wook are now household names in the west, but what about the likes of Kim Bora or Hong Sung-eun? The Korean Wave has taken over, but often leaves its female contributors on the peripherals. This conversation will spotlight some of the key female figures in South Korean cinema and television, and touch upon the wider cultural context of the feminist movement that has grown exponentially in the country in recent years.

Panellists: Dr. Jinhee Choi, So Mayer
Host: Hyun Jin Cho

WHEN: January 14 2023 14:10 – 14:50

WHERE: BFI Southbank, The Blue Room
