Sarah Cooper will lead an AHRC networking grant ‘Global Circulations of Film Theory’

Sarah Cooper will lead an AHRC networking grant ‘Global Circulations of Film Theory’
8 December, 2022

The network will bring together film scholars from around the world who share a common critique of film theory’s western imperialist historical foundations. The project involves KCL Film Studies colleagues Chris Berry, Erica Carter, and Victor Fan. It will be led by Sarah Cooper (PI) in conjunction with Aboubakar Sanogo (CoI, Carleton University Canada) and will run from January 2023 to October 2024.

Network activities will coalesce around three online symposia, with the aim of providing a focus for research exchange among network participants. In addition to the symposia, BFI Southbank will host public-facing workshops involving UK participants. The project will conclude with a major conference.

The network will develop teaching resources to reflect the expansive understanding of the global circulation of theory resulting from its research. These will be shared in the form of teaching toolkits by means of a network website. In addition to the teaching toolkits, an edited volume of articles will be the other main output drawn from network collaborations.

More information can be found on the project’s website.
